The
Machhapuchhre Development Organization (MDO) is a non-profit, non-governmental
organization that has been registered in Nepal since 1989. MDO describes itself as
"built on a grassroots philosophy that involves local people in all aspects of the
conservation and community development processes. By empowering local people with
appropriate skills, knowledge and technical assistance, MDO helps the women, youth,
children and socially deprived groups to improve their quality of life."
MDO's primary program is a toilet construction support program which has
been run quite successfully and has helped to reduce communicable diseases as well as to
improve the cleanliness of the surrounding environment in the areas where MDO works. There
is a high demand for this program, and outside support is necessary to help MDO to
continue this important initiative. MDO is also involved in credit/savings programs for
villagers (primarily mothers), and the introduction of improved cook stoves, tree
plantations, biogas plants, and various other projects. All of their efforts are ongoing
and in need of outside financial support for their continued success.
Nature of EPF support: Project promotion through print and electronic
sources.
