Mpohor Wassa East Community Based Eco-Tourism (Western Region, Ghana)

The Friends of the Nation Organization (FON) is trying to combat deforestation and poverty in the Western Region of Ghana by developing opportunities for local residents to partake in the ecotourism industry. Currently, in collaboration with the Wassa Domama Tourism Development Committee, FON has developed a tour of several of the natural sites in Mpohor Wassa. The main attraction is the Rock Shrine Known as "Bosom Kese" or "Great God." It is a rock formation with one huge rock stacked on top of three rocks to form a shelter nearly three stories high. Local trained guides walk visitors through a tropical rainforest to the Rock Shrine. FON has been able to train guides and produce a tour package brochure to distribute to tourists. In addition, FON is a holistic community development and environmental preservation organization and sponsor a number of other projects.

Nature of EPF support: Project promotion through print and electronic sources.
