This project is
dedicated to the demonstration of sustainable development on a small scale using
traditional agriculture and environmental education. Zamia was originally a pig farm and
as a result contributed a great deal of pollution and degradation to the surrounding
environment. The rivers and forested areas were full of solid waste, and from the bed of
one river 50 batteries were removed as well as many tons of garbage. Now the river is
clean and wildlife has begun to return, and this project is working hard to manage a small
area for organic agriculture, conserve and restore the forested area, correctly manage all
wastes, use solar energy, study biodiversity, and provide an example that can be repeated
throughout the region.
